The V Project is a 2020 modern fire rebuild in Vernon by Bercum Builders, the Vernon custom home builder Okanagan homeowners trust to bring deeply personal projects to life. After our client’s original home was lost in a fire, we worked with him to rebuild something fundamentally different, a home shaped by his own craftsmanship as a steelworker. The fireplace is wrapped entirely in steel that the homeowner fabricated and assembled himself, making it the most personal feature in the house. In the kitchen, a hidden butler’s pantry sits behind a set of doors that open next to the range, completely concealing the pantry until you walk through. The exterior pairs corrugated steel for a controlled rusty patina with cleaner modern lines, and oversized patios capture the Vernon valley views. Inside, a live-edge wood bar countertop adds organic warmth. Built on a tricky bottom-of-the-hill lot, it’s a great example of how a Vernon custom home builder turns site challenges and personal stories into a one-of-a-kind home.
